It is common for cooling tower pipes and chiller pipes to corrode due to inadequate or improper chemical corrosion treatment. This water can oxidize the metal surfaces until they leak or fail completely.

These pipes are usually rehabilitated using epoxy pipe lining. The process starts by using high pressure and high flow air to dry out and then blow sand through the pipes to remove corrosion deposits. Then an epoxy liquid is blown through the pipes which coats all surfaces uniformly and it is then cured by heat. This process is repeated until all leaks are sealed.  Then the pipe is pressure tested.
